The state of nature as seen by a young student at the university of Åbo in a dissertation from 1689. The state of nature is Identified with Paradise: Adam, in a haughty attitude, carries a sceptre as a token of his dominion over Eve, who is sitting under the tree to the right, and the birds, the quadrupedes and the fishes, all of them moving over the stage in an ammenable manner. In the tree to the left, the Serpent can be seen. This naive concept of the state of nature is far from Pufendorflan and more in accordance with the opinion of Lutheran orthodoxy. (From the dissertation De rcpitblica e sids fundamcntis atque fontibas crucnda, defended by Simon Lillicgren with professor Daniel Achrelius as his supervisor.)
