maria joão oliveira e silva Returning to the initial aim of this study, i.e., to analyse the testaments dating from the 13th century and belonging to the archive of the monastery of S. Pedro de Pedroso, it was possible to understand that their formulary is relatively simplified and limited in the use of accessory formulas, namely the invocation and the notification, and also, in some cases, in the use of the sanction and the dating. These formulary characteristics stand out, especially compared to those found in the donations andpostmortemdonations from the same period in the same monastic archive. An analysis of how these types of documents were validated also showed that the choices made were also diverse, with the almost total absence of subscriptions from the respective material authors in the case of wills. It also became clear, from the same comparative exercise, that the vocables, action verbs, and other expressions found in the texts of the documents were not chosen randomly. As we have seen, the testaments often identify themselves as “manda”, a term that never appears in the two types of donations under study. On the other hand, some wills include certain conditions that are understandable given the nature of this type of document. The same can be said about the production of other acts related to these last wills. In conclusion, the analysis of a relatively small set of documents has raised many questions, forced us to reflect, provided us with some conclusions, but, above all, made us want to continue studying testaments, especially those from the 14th century. The main goal is to understand what path was followed in the elaboration of this type of document at a time when public notaries already dominated the production of documents, ending the hegemony of the medieval scriptoria. 271 Final regards
