the formularies of medieval portuguese testaments monasterio de Petroso pro testimonio”,26 “Et mando quod ista manda seu testamentum custodiatur in monasterio de Petroso”,27 or “Item mando et concedo quod ista mea manda conservetur in perpetuum in testimonium in tesauro monasterii de Petroso”.28 These obligations lead us to reflect, on the one hand, on the importance accorded by testators to the fulfilment of testamentary legacies and, on the other, on the trust placed in the monastery of Pedroso to preserve, in perpetuum, the document that reflected their last will. In the framework of the analysis carried out, we thought it would be interesting to mention that in the context of drawing up some testaments, other types of documents were produced, specifically lists of the testators’ debts. These lists of debts, produced to serve as a guide for the executors to pay the testators’ debts, are written on the back of the document or on a stand-alone piece of parchment sewn into the will itself,29 and begin their text with expressions such as: “Istas sunt debitas que debet dare…”.30 When they are not written on the back nor transformed into an independent document, these lists also appear included in the testament itself, specifically after the indication of the bequeathed goods31 or even in a place expressly left on the parchment for this purpose (particularly on the side margins).32 270 26 “I command that these “manda” of mine be sent to remain forever in the monastery of Petros as a testimony” (ANTT, S. Pedro de Pedroso, mç. 7, nº 15). 27 “And I order that this “manda” or testament be kept in the monastery of Petroso” (ANTT, S. Pedro de Pedroso, mç. 7, nº 14). 28 “Also, I command and grant that this “manda” of mine shall be preserved forever as a testimony in the treasury of the monastery of Petroso” (ANTT, S. Pedro de Pedroso, mç. 7, nº 17). 29 ANTT, S. Pedro de Pedroso, mç. 6, nº 22. 30 “Those are the debts that must be paid…” (ANTT, S. Pedro de Pedroso, mç. 7, nº 16). 31 ANTT, S.
