Bengt Bengtsson Oxenstierna, one of Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna’s many cousins, was Governor-General of Livonia 1634 –1643. However, he is best remembered by posterity because of his extensive travels to North Africa, the Near East and Persia in the 1610s. His palace, also known by its later name Hessensteinska palatset, is nowadays one of the buildings housing the Svea Court of Appeal. Painting by A. G. Linander.
