introduction Legislation went by different names in different countries. Even similar forms of legislations can have a variation of names in the same country. Here exact conformity has neither been pursued nor reached. Different views of the clergy also occur. Here I have generally used ”priest” for the individuals except for those of Reformed, that is Calvinistic, confession and situations where those clearly are included, as it for them is a problematic term. Problems probably remain also here. Modern technology has highlighted a possible problem for the thorough reader. Several texts I have used in this book are now possible to download. Such versions and those I have seen in libraries can sometime differ rather much depending on the city they have been printed in or who the publisher was. Therefore, looking on internet or in another library than the one where I saw a particular book can lead to questions and dismay. At least in some cases, however, I am not at fault, and neither are you.60 60 Among those I refer to are Besse 1624 and Esquirol 1838. 39
