Hägerström’s theory of science simply demonstrates that truth necessarily supports truth, not that truth necessarily supports morals. However, this does not rule out that a factual truth can be used as a moral argument in support of a certain moral standpoint, but, for this to be possible, it is necessary that the moral agent in question himself adheres to the moral system argued for. The only proposition that Hägerström sees as true in this case is the fact that morals in themselves are not subject to truth or to arguments concerning their truth; morals are only subject to approval or disapproval. There are, according to Hägerström, thus no objective moral truths, aconclusion further strengthened if it is connected to his post-1917 position, which states that there are no values connected to the valued object’s own reality.123 Furthermore, it is the objectivistic theory of values that Hägerström refutes not “empirical”morality. His conclusion is not that there exists no such thing as morality, but that there are no such ontological categories as super-natural or supra-individual systems of morals. The principle of logical determinacy is one that is possible to grasp in the judgment, which according to Logren’s analysis of Hägerström must, be elevated to a level of true metaphysics above all:“… temporal discoursivity and relativity are thus transformed into a veritable divine spark in man.”124 Logren continues that Hägerström’s interpretation of the concept of judgment thus gives the judgment a unique position in the life of the human mind, for it is through the judgment alone that mind gains access to the super-sensible and universal.125 Hägerström’s intuition is thus a form of revelation supported by the bearer’s personal certainty p a r t i i i , c h a p t e r 3 208 123 Cf.
